Avanti, avanti migranti! Escape and arrival.

Directed by Volker Hesse

Theater venues are becoming spaces where scenes of refugee-stories pulsate together: tightly packed into boats and trucks; threatened by smugglers; waiting and despairing in camps; endlessly going, running, wandering; experiencing violence and torture; parting and separating; enduring humiliating controls and investigations; seeking meaning and comfort with prayers and rituals; being exposed to hostile glances; being welcomed and experiencing fellow humanity; celebrating together; making music and eating...processes flow into each other in multiple ways, simultaneously creating scenes, rituals, panorama pictures. Then an even greater concentration is redirected again to a single focus.

With the formal tools of dance theater, with linguistic works of art such as the poems of the Kurdish-Syrian poet Aref Hamza, with voices and instruments, the passions of flight and the experiences of arriving in an unknown place are made tangible.

The theater creation "Avanti avanti migranti", directed by Volker Hesse, was created during several weeks of work by the 12 artists of the Accademia Teatro Dimitri with asylum seekers and refugees living in Ticino who contributed their experience to the design and are involved in the performance.
