The Accademia Dimitri is a school of movement theatre that offers university-level courses (Bachelor’s and Master’s) to about 60 students from national and international backgrounds. It has been involved in education for almost 50 years and has been affiliated to the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) since 2006.
Since autumn 2022, it has opened a second training location in addition to the historic one in Verscio, in Vallemaggia, in Avegno (Centro Punto Valle).
The academy intends to enter into direct contact with its host territory and open up to the population of the valley with courses and other activities currently in preparation.
This is how it presents itself:
After an initial warm-up, the course will be organised in two parts: one dedicated to acrobatics (mainly on the ground) and one to juggling (with balls and other objects). Depending on the composition and/or wishes of the group, other disciplines from the circus world may also be tried out (tightrope walking, hoola hop, clowning, etc.).
At all times, the teachers will be on hand to give the youngsters technical advice and opportunities for in-depth study.
And who will be the artist-teachers?
Annette Fiaschi
A graduate of the National School for Circus Arts in London, she later completed her training with a Master’s degree at the Dimitri Academy in Verscio. Her speciality is acrobatics (on the hands in particular).
Max Haverkamp
A graduate of the National School for Circus Arts in London, he is an expert in jonglage (juggling).
Who is it aimed at?
The course is designed both for young people who already have some skills developed in other artistic disciplines and who wish to train and improve their skills under the guidance of experienced teachers, and for those who want to discover a new way of working with the body and who have not yet addressed this interest. While guaranteeing the professionalism of the offer, the environment will not be competitive. From the age of 12, in Italian.
Thanks to the support of Banca Stato, the Accademia Dimitri can offer this activity to young people in Vallemaggia at a favourable price.
