Paula Carrara

Voice Teacher

She is a director, performer, and vocal coach, active in contemporary creation since 2001, with research focused on the voice as a corporeal materiality and a biopolitical construct. She graduated in Theatre Pedagogy (2007) and earned a Master's in Performance Studies - Stage Artist Training (2015) from the University of São Paulo.

Throughout her career, she has worked in the São Paulo group theater scene, participated in the Urban Musical Movements project directed by João das Neves, and coordinated artistic activities at Casa das Rosas and the Chamber of Culture.

Her directorial projects include La Fora (Brazil, 2019), Con Tutto il Mio Rumore (Italy, 2020), Il Canto delle Donne dell’Asfalto (Italy, 2019, MUDEC Milan), and Romeo and Juliet in Padova’s Street (Italy, 2019, NoLo Fringe Festival).

She was selected for the Women Opera Makers Workshop, coordinated by director Katie Mitchell, and was invited to participate in the Professional Days program at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.

She was a visiting lecturer at the University of São Paulo (2012) and has taught at theater schools and cultural spaces in Brazil, France, Italy, Cyprus, Switzerland, and Portugal, such as the Pinacoteca di Brera (IT), Il Lazzaretto (IT), the CEM dance center (PT), and the Fundação das Artes de São Caetano (BR).

Her research on body-voice integration has been supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and the CNPQ, and in 2016 she published the book Body Voice Listening: Reflections on the Practice of the Actor.

In 2022, she created AUTENTICA voce e comunicazione and publishes Co(spirare), a monthly newsletter dedicated to the voice.

She has participated in training sessions led by Anatolij Vassiliev, Enzo Cosimi, Mohamed El Khatib, Chris Watson, Thomas Richards, Maud Robart, Mikhail Karikis, Wagner Barbosa, Andre Barroso, Fabio Cintra, Wania Storolli, Maria Thais, Antonio Januzzeli, Sophia Neuparth, Peter Michael Dietz, Lu Favoretto, Tica Lemos, Sandro Borelli, Francesca della Monica, Sabine Uitz, Chiara Guidi, and Davide Tidoni.

Recent works include CASSANDRA we have a problem, an intimate sonic exploration of the myth of Cassandra, and Priam et Hécube veulent pleurer with Cie. des Faux in Lyon. She is also a performer in Ruggero Franceschini's Radio Pentothal, presented at the LIVE festival in Zona K.
