Raul Vargas Torres

Teacher of physical theatre and performance

Raúl Vargas Torres is a Colombian theater artist, director, and educator, currently active between Switzerland and Berlin. His work intertwines body movement, visual arts, objects, philosophy, and traditional circus in a deliberately raw and "trashy" aesthetic.

As a creator and author, he has developed a wide range of performances, from pure improvisation to structured works, presenting his work at festivals such as Zürcher Theater Spektakel (CH), THEALTER 23 (HU), Palestinian Circus Festival, MasQue (FI), Festspillene i Nord (NO), Vårscenefest (NO), and the Festival Internacional de Circo de Bogotá, among others.

Raúl has collaborated with artists and academics in the performing arts, including David Zambrano, Richard Weihe, Sophia Rodriguez, Mathieu Horeau, Raissa Aviles, Davide Giovanzana, Gandini Juggling Project, and Muro de Espuma.

He is currently an associate professor at the Master's in Theatre program at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Switzerland, where he teaches acting and movement research and mentors students' final projects.

As a pedagogue, he has taught at institutions such as Tic Tac Art Center (BL), University of the Arts Helsinki (FI), Universidad Pontificia Javeriana (COL), Accademia Teatro Dimitri (CH), Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (CZ), Palestinian Circus School (PS), Centre Culturel Gambidi (BF), and Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität (AT), among others.

He is also involved in several artistic projects in Europe and is developing his performance piece, Trinity or Father Is a Clown, in collaboration with philosopher and playwright Mathieu Horeau and composer Ariel Schlichter.
