11.6: 8.30 pm / 12.6: 9.00 pm / 13.6: 8.30 pm

The Museo Hermann Hesse Montagnola dares to experiment: it brings Hesse’s fairy tale Vogel (1933) into the public space – in the form of community theatre. Hesse wrote Vogel for his wife Ninon, as a tribute to the “Monday village”, his affectionate name for Montagnola. At its centre stands a mysterious being that no one has ever truly seen, yet it ignites imagination, myths, and tensions within the village.

Now, people from the Collina d’Oro and the surrounding region transform the Piazza Brocchi, the small square in front of the Torre Camuzzi, and other corners of the village into a vivid narrative landscape, making familiar places newly tangible through theatrical interventions. The direction lies in the hands of theatre director Giacomo Agosti, while coordination of the production is overseen by our participation lead, Veronica Carmine. In addition, students of the Accademia Teatro Dimitri (Verscio), under the guidance of Giampaolo Gotti, create several scenic moments between the various performance sites. They have drawn inspiration from the Persian verse epic The Conference of the Birds (by Farid al‑Din ʿAttar, 12th century). Selected passages from this centuries‑old text enter into a lively dialogue with Hesse’s fairy tale, merging with the theatre piece developed together with the village’s residents.
