Shakespeare & Company: A series of Theatrical Études within the Museum Spaces

The Centro di Cultura e d’Arte Ascona & the Accademia Dimitri are pleased to invite you to a theatrical études realised by the second-year Bachelor students, the final outcome of a workshop investigating the masterpieces of dramatic art in a site-specific manner.

Not the works in the gallery, but the spaces themselves - the thresholds, the voids, the silences, the invisible lines that separate and connect - guided this scenic research. Places traversed by gesture, voice, doubt and presence.

The études emerge from an engagement with the tragic power of William Shakespeare's works and the writings of notable 20th-century authors—Camus, Sartre, Ibsen, Pirandello, and Woody Allen—to delve into themes of identity, free will, the absurd, and the human desire for recognition. Yet, amidst the fractures of drama, elements of playfulness, irony, and an unexpected openness to hope also surface.

The result is an open and vibrant scenic composition, where ancient and contemporary words intertwine with the presence of the spaces, shaping an essential and surprising form of theater.
