The Accademia Teatro Dimitri hosts the second day of the international conference ā€œIn the Middle of the Edgeā€

On 20 and 21 November 2025, the Canton of Ticino will host the international conference ā€œIn the Middle of the Edge. Questioning the centre-periphery dichotomy in the arts and cultureā€, two days of discussions and reflections exploring the relationships between centre and periphery in the contemporary arts and cultural fields.

Organised by the Research Committee of Sociology of Arts and Culture (RC-SAC/Foko-KUKUSO)Ā of the Swiss Sociological Association (SSA), together with the Accademia DimitriĀ and the Department of Education and Learning (DFA) of SUPSI, the conference will take place on 20 November in LocarnoĀ and on 21 November in Avegno, at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri.

The second day in Avegno will feature Panel 3 – ā€œBeing an artist in the centre-peripheryā€, chaired by Demis Quadri, Head of Research and Services at the Accademia Dimitri. During the same session, Veronica Provenzale, Director and Researcher at the Accademia, will present her talk entitled ā€œBeing a performing artist in a peripheral region: limitation or opportunity? The example of the performing arts in Ticino.ā€

Her contribution draws on the outcomes of the ā€œBuilding a Characterā€Ā research project, conducted by the Accademia Dimitri in collaboration with DEASS-SUPSI and several local cultural partners. The study highlights the distinctive features of Ticino’s performing arts scene — a peripheral yet vibrant region — showing how local challenges can become powerful sources of creative innovation and community building.

The Accademia Teatro Dimitri is honoured to contribute to this international dialogue, offering a space where research meets artistic practice, and where theatre continues to question boundaries — geographical, cultural, and creative alike.
