As part of our programme, we are delighted to present a production that combines historical research, contemporary creation and a powerful physical language.
Kateřina Vernerová, a student at DAMU, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, takes us on an evocative journey to discover Jarmila Horáková, a pioneering figure of the Czech theatrical avant-garde of the 1920s. An innovative actress deeply devoted to her art, Horáková helped redefine the boundaries of modern acting alongside director Jiří Frejka, during a period of great creative ferment.
The performance unfolds as an intimate and poetic portrait: a woman torn between personal doubts and an absolute devotion to the theatre. Drawing on the principles of physical theatre and pantomime, the production places the body and movement at its heart, crafting a theatrical language composed of gestures, visual imagery, words and music. The result is a sensory narrative that invites the audience to enter the artist’s inner world.
This original production also forms part of an important historical context: the centenary of the founding of the Teatro Liberato, which emerged from the Devětsil avant-garde movement. It offers an opportunity to reflect not only on the cultural legacy of that era, but also on the surprising relevance today of the questions that drove its leading figures.
The tensions between art and life, between personal identity and artistic vocation, still resonate powerfully today, making this production a living bridge between past and present.
📅 The performance will take place on 23 April at 4.30 pm, at Aula Grande in Verscio
We look forward to sharing this moment with you.
