THE CONCERT
by Rebekka Pichler

This is a concert. The protagonist of this concert is a conductor.
In addition to the conductor, there are televisions and a video camera on stage. The televisions show what the camera is recording.
The camera is the visual narrator. It selects, directs the viewer's attention, establishes what's important, and decides how things should be perceived. What should be noticed and how.
The camera captures what is there and also what is not there.
"The Concert" is both a concert and a fictional documentary about a concert. What is filmed is partly what is intended for the camera and partly what is not. It's a battle between the world inside and outside of television screens, between live film, live action, and videos from different times and settings.
The existence of the conductor is an absurd compromise between controlling and guiding the music and being controlled and guided by the music.
