Carmen Raffaela Küster

Movement performer, choreographer, researcher and teacher.

With a strong background in circus arts, Carmen Raffaela specialised for over 25 years in trapeze and aerial acrobatics.
Her artistic practice is very interdisciplinary, and she also draws from her passion for material construction work and design thinking processes that she has cultivated in her BA studies in Product Design and Visual Communication at the Free University of Bolzano, Italy, 2005-2009. 2008 Erasmus semester at École Cantonal des Arts de Lausanne, Switzerland. 2011/12 Carmen Raffaela was fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart, where she was funded to live and create her performance art.
In 2019 she finished her Master in Co-Creation of Movement/ Choreography in the Netherlands at Codarts/Rotterdam and Fontys/Tilburg. She received several grants for her research projects, based on somatic approaches to movement and the exploration of permacultural principles as methodologies for Practice-led Artistic Research. Carmen Raffaela has created and performed her own work internationally, from Austria to Australia. Since 2016 she is creating and touring her own pieces with her company in_tensegrity – association for movement arts, based in Vienna. Carmen Raffaela teaches artistic research and prototyping for international universities and is sharing her aerial technique and creative skills in different workshop formats, for various institutions and festivals.
