Place of birth: Oberegg (AI), Switzerland

Julia Berger, born in 2002, is passionate about the interdisciplinary nature of theater and the fusion of text and movement. With a passion for acting, dance (jazz/contemporary), and singing (solo/composed vocal), she explores forms in space, the power of sound and silence, proximity and distance.

At the age of fifteen, Julia Berger furthered her education on a six-month student exchange program in Bedford, UK, where she took theater, dance, and music classes at Kimberley College. Returning to Switzerland, at seventeen, she played her first professional role at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (Alina in "Greta" by Suna Gürler and Lucien Haug, directed by Suna Gürler). During this time, she also wrote, choreographed, and staged a physical theater piece ("In Between," for three actors), which was recognized as outstanding at its premiere in 2019 at the Kantonsschule Wetzikon.
This was followed by a one-year internship and basic training in "BuT Theatre Pedagogy" at the Tempus fugit theatre in Lörrach (D), courses in film studies and philosophy at the University of Zurich, work with the "young lab" group of the Grande Giro company and positions as assistant director with directors such as Recha La Dous and Sabrina Lössl.
In the fall of 2023, Julia Berger began studying physical theater at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri. Through various projects (such as the piece "baum.fällt" with Benjamin Koch for the gARTen festival in Lugano), she is discovering new passions such as acrobatics and poetry, and enjoying her time in the mountains of Ticino.

As a politically engaged individual, her works always refer to the present and play with expectations and associations. The themes are diverse, ranging from loneliness to menstruation. They are united by a desire to think broadly. Sometimes with poetic imagery, sometimes with an unvarnished directness, but always with a great love of playfulness, she creates moving works.
