Meˈdeːa
Leonie Stalder
In Euripides' tragedy, Medea betrays her country and kills her brother for the love of
Jason. When Jason betrays her to marry another woman, she becomes for reasons of
murderous revenge on his own children. In more recent versions, the character
becomes more complex and the gesture is no longer represented as a simple act
of revenge.
The Me deːa project is an attempt to give voice back to the character and to give her
the opportunity to tell their story of how this crime came to be.
This is not to excuse the crime, but at most to make it more understandable.
