Notturno senza luna

Every evening you do this, Pierrot:

you wake up, you prepare to meet

my round face,

and you wait for me to smile

before taking another step.

But today the sky is empty.

A darkened room,

a window closed from the outside.

And I watch you from behind the

darkness.

You walk lightly

for fear of breaking the night,

in your fist you hold only

a handful of clouds.

I feel you, Pierrot.

“Where are you?” your shoulders ask.

“Where are you?” your hands ask.

I feel that knot that cuts your breath

when you don’t know where I am.

You would like to cry

salt water to disinfect,

to take your heart out

as if it were a button.

To dance and leap

until you reach up here.

Convinced that if you find me,

then everything is fine.

New moon night,

night with feet in the air,

skimming the earth,

skimming the sky.

A game of hide-and-seek

you don’t want to play,

a cyclical weaning

without completion.

And if, while searching,

something new

has found you,

let it resonate.

Sing, sing, Pierrot.

To soothe, to heal,

to manage at least a little,

to sleep.
